Program Notes
Curve is commissioned by Ceruti String Quartet. A general sense of spiritual longing is where Curve comes from. It starts and ends with sections that are airy, ethereal, longing, spiritual and with a certain sense of peace. The breakout takes place in the middle which contains fast sections with a synthesis of raw qualities found in the music of the Balkan’s and rock-and-roll. The work is in one continuous movement. The title is a reflection of my preoccupation with architectural shapes associated with spiritual structures. Other such works are Domes for orchestra and Arches for chamber ensemble.
