Program Notes

Evil Eye is commissioned by Dogs of Desire. The work takes its starting point from the Turkish rock I used to hear growing up in Turkey in the 70’s. The whole piece is rough, without any delusions, in your face, unashamed. Perhaps at times more rock then rock-influenced, the work was kind of an experiment for me with which I had much fun, tailored for Dogs of Desire Ensemble who wanted such a piece. I must admit I was also thinking about some of the music associated with the popular Ban on a Can Festival in New York City.
